Little Cayman is the smallest and least developed of the three Cayman Islands. First discovered in 1503 by Christopher Columbus it was rarely visited until recent times. Boasting 22miles of coastline and long rumored to be the best diving in the Caribbean, Little Cayman is a still semi-undiscovered jewel for divers. With all the luxuries of home and all the pampered relaxation of a true get-away, Little Cayman Beach Resort is a destination not to be missed.
This was Ocean First Diver’s first time to Little Cayman Beach Resort and it was the unanimous wish of all that it won’t be the last. The staff was excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful as can be. The rooms had just recently been renovated and they exceeded everyone’s expectations. The food was excellent and there were always good options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
Sunday morning we boarded our very own boat, and headed out to see if the rumors of Little Cayman would hold true. Our very first dive was on the intersection of Little Cayman’s two marine parks; Bloody Bay and Jackson Bight. This perfect introduction allowed us to see both the sheerness of the world famous Bloody Bay wall and the delicate and breathtaking swim-throughs that characterize the Jackson Bight.
Over the week we saw everything from lettuce sea slugs, juvenile spotted drums, yellowhead jawfish, and juvenile smooth trunk fish to eagle rays, yellow spotted rays, reef sharks and squid.
As a group we achieved many milestones including Glenn’s 100th dive, Ted finished up his Master Scuba Diver rating, and Bill got his Open Water Diver certification! Congratulations!!!
